I went down to the Arts Institute on Thursday and did a quick first sweep of the institution.Easy to get lost in that place - lots of small rooms full of the oddest variety of things. I don't know how often I'll make it down that way, once we've moved. It'll be a bit of a schlep. But I think that it will be often enough that a museum membership will be an absolute necessity. As long as I'm up here, I can get a little research done. And Southern Boy will absolutely love the photography and architecture exhibits!Speaking of architecture....Southern Boy and I went down to Andy's for dinner and Jazz. After dinner, SoBoy showed me the way that he's been walking to and from work the last few days. Not only is is a deal quieter than the Michigan Ave. route but the view of the potpourri of architectural styles down by the river at night is spectacular!I still can't say that I love this city but I may be warming up to it.
We're still staying at the hotel but we should be moving into the apartment on Saturday and I am looking forward to getting settled in.The rain stopped and the fog has (somewhat) lifted so Southern Boy and I walked over to our new neighborhood this evening. There's at least one salon in the vicinity that carries Aveda and there's a Whole Foods downstairs of our building ~ so I think I'll be in pretty good shape. There's even a handy-dandy Episcopalian cathedral nearby!
Well, my first day in Chicago has been chilly and rainy.I went over to Nordstrom's, to look for a new bathing suit but found they had mainly "cruise suits" in stock. The way I feel about rhinestones on bathing suits is the way I feel about clear plastic shoes: I am not old enough to wear either! And, you know what? I never will be!
Southern Boy has found an apartment for us!It's in a high-rise downtown, within easy walking distance of a bunch of shops that I can't afford to shop in.location...location...location
Just So You Know....
Like Southern Boy, I will continue to keep up my other blog from time to time but all discussion of my adventures in Chicago - as well as all matters pertaining to all of this wacky cross-country travel - will be confined to this blog. Please note, dear friends, that we are blogging anonymously for security reasons. So please, do not comment here about stuff you read on my other blog. And vice-versa. Cool?Cool.
On The Home Front
I am still trying to get things in order for my trip to Chicago. This week, I'm trying to get the house in order. I'm rather obsessive about coming home to a clean house, although you probably wouldn't guess that from the general state of my housekeeping! As much as I love order, I hate doing housework. It's an unfortunate combination.
Trying to gear up for the upcoming trip to Chicago.I have no idea how long I'm going to be there so I find it awfully hard to figure out what to pack! It's already Spring at home. I wore sandals to the mall today but I know that there is snow forecast for the Chicago area this week and it'll be pretty cold for a bit. I don't particularly relish the idea of lugging several jackets all the way up there - especially since that valuable luggage space could be taken up by several additional pairs of shoes!
